Iron-On Stickers & Iron-On Decals - Custom Made From Your Designs

Iron-on stickers (also called iron-on decals or fabric stickers) are heat-applied custom prints that fuse to fabric using a household iron or heat press, lasting 50+ washes. DTF Owl produces them from any uploaded image at 1200 DPI on EU-made PET film, with no minimum order from a single A5 sheet at £2.99.

Stickers, Decals, Transfers - What Is the Difference?

There is no difference. "Iron-on stickers," "iron-on decals," and "iron-on transfers" all describe the same product - a printed design on a carrier film that bonds to fabric when heat is applied. The terminology varies by context. Crafters and parents tend to say "stickers." Designers and sign makers lean toward "decals." The printing industry uses "transfers." Whichever term you searched, you have landed in the right place.

At DTF Owl, we produce iron-on stickers using DTF (Direct-to-Film) technology. Your design is printed in full CMYK colour with a white ink base layer onto EU-manufactured PET film, then coated with heat-activated adhesive powder. The result is a thin, flexible print that bonds permanently to fabrics that can tolerate application heat, including cotton, polyester, nylon, denim, and many blends, and holds up through 50+ machine washes.

This is not the same as vinyl stickers, which sit on the surface and peel off, or paper-backed iron-on paper you feed through a home printer. DTF iron-on stickers are professionally printed, stretchable, and washable. They feel soft against skin and move with the fabric rather than cracking or going stiff.

Iron-On Stickers FAQs

What is the difference between iron-on stickers, iron-on decals, and iron-on transfers?

Nothing. They are different names for the same product. "Iron-on stickers" and "iron-on decals" are informal terms that people use to describe heat-applied custom prints for fabric. The technical term is "iron-on transfer" or "DTF transfer." At DTF Owl, whether you search for stickers, decals, or transfers, you get the same product: a full-colour design printed on PET film with heat-activated adhesive, ready to press onto clothing.

How long do iron-on stickers last on clothes?

When applied correctly, our iron-on stickers last 50+ washes. This is far longer than shop-bought inkjet transfer paper (5-10 washes) or cheap vinyl stickers. For maximum life, wash garments inside-out at 30°C and avoid tumble drying on high heat.

Which fabrics can I iron stickers onto?

Our iron-on stickers work on many fabrics and fibrous materials that can be ironed or heat pressed at around 150°C, including cotton, polyester, nylon, denim, canvas, suitable leather, and many fabric blends. Avoid materials that cannot tolerate application heat, such as some very thin synthetics or waterproof membranes with heat-sensitive coatings.

Do I need special equipment to apply iron-on stickers?

No. A regular household iron set to around 150°C (medium heat) with steam turned off will do the job. Place parchment paper over the sticker and press firmly for 10-15 seconds. A heat press gives more consistent results but is not required.

What file formats can I upload for my sticker design?

We accept PNG, JPG, WebP, TIFF, BMP, SVG, and PDF files up to 300MB. For the best results, upload a PNG with a transparent background at 300 DPI or higher. If your image needs the background removed, we offer that as an add-on during checkout.

How small can iron-on stickers be?

We can print stickers as small as 1cm wide with readable detail. Fine text below about 6pt may lose sharpness, but logos, icons, and illustrations reproduce clearly at small sizes. You choose the exact dimensions when you upload your design.

Can I fit multiple stickers on one sheet?

Yes. You can use our gang sheet tool to arrange several sticker designs on a single sheet. This is the most cost-effective approach when you need multiple small stickers - one A5 sheet at £2.99 can hold quite a few.
