Denim is forgiving because it is pure cotton (or near-pure in the case of stretch denim). You can press at higher temperatures and longer times than with synthetic fabrics, and the thick weave absorbs heat evenly.

Tips for Printing on Denim
Work around hardware. Denim garments often have rivets, buttons, and metal zippers. Never press the iron or heat press directly over metal hardware - it will dent the transfer and can crack the design. Position your transfer to clear all hardware by at least 1cm.
Account for texture. Denim has a visible diagonal twill weave. Very fine text (under 5mm tall) may not reproduce as crisply as on smooth cotton jersey. For best results on denim, keep text at 8mm or larger and use bold fonts.
Pre-press thick denim. Heavy denim (14oz+) holds moisture in its fibres. Give the area a 5-second pre-press before placing the transfer to drive out moisture and heat the fabric. This improves first-press adhesion and reduces the chance of lifting at the edges.

Can you iron transfers onto denim?
Yes. Denim is one of the best fabrics for iron-on transfers. It is 100% cotton (or a high-cotton blend), handles high temperatures without damage, and its thick, tight weave provides strong adhesion. The dense surface means fine details print clearly and hold up well to washing and wear.
What temperature for denim iron-on transfers?
Use 155-165°C for standard denim. Denim is thick cotton, so it needs slightly more heat and time than a lightweight cotton tee. Press for 15 seconds with firm pressure. Stretch denim with elastane content should be pressed at 150-155°C to account for the synthetic blend.
Will colours show on dark denim?
Yes. DTF transfers include a white ink base layer printed beneath the colour layer. This opaque base means your design will appear vibrant and accurate on indigo, black, and dark-wash denim. No colour shift, no fading into the fabric.
Can I iron on transfers to denim jackets?
Denim jackets are one of the most popular items for iron-on transfers. The back panel is large and flat (ideal for a big design), the chest pockets work well for small logos, and the sleeves can take 5-8cm prints. Place a board or pressing pad inside the jacket for a firm surface.
Can I print on jeans?
Yes, but placement matters. The back pockets, thigh area, and leg panels are the easiest spots to press. Avoid seams, rivets, and hardware - press around them, not over them. Lay the jeans flat, insert a board inside the leg, and press normally.
How do I wash denim with transfers?
Turn inside out, wash at 30-40°C, and hang dry. Denim is typically washed infrequently anyway, so transfers on denim tend to last a very long time. Avoid bleach and fabric softener on the printed area.
